What stitches are used here?

Hello! 

I have been trying to figure out how the black and brown pattern on the sleeves are done. I have tried alternating 2sc and 2sc between the posts, but can't really get it to look as beautiful as in this pattern (below). Either I am doing the "between the posts" stitches wrong, or these are completely different crochet stitches. Would anyone know what to try?

Welcome to the ville!  I think it might be a spike stitch.    Here is a tutorial.

Edit, spike stitch combined with SC or maybe HDC.
