Easy Pattern has me confused

Donna 44

Question

Was in Hobby Lobby and found instruction for a Shawl (Easy). I read the instructions before purchasing yarn, it seemed easy enough.  Now that I have it started I have run into a direction I can't decide how to handle.

I have Ch 4 ad sl st to first ch to make a ring.

Row 1; Ch 2,  3 dc in ring, ch 2, 4 dc  in ring.  Turn (completed)

row 2: Ch 2, 3 dc in same st. (completed) , 1 dc on each next st across row. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) corner in ch sp, 1 dc on each next st across row, 2 dc in same last st, turn.  The bold is the area I am not understanding.

Rows 3-5: Repeat row 2

Welcome to the ville!

Oh perfect!  A picture is worth 1000 words and NCcountrygal posted just as I was making a lot of words to explain what was going on.  This is a triangle shawl, starting at the bottom tip, and getting wider as it goes 'up' toward your shoulders.  Some triangle shawls increase at the side, some increase using a center spine--yours does the latter.

Have you ever made a granny square?  You are sort of making a solid half granny square, down 1 side, turn the corner, up the other side.
