8th row. I ch, Dec over next 2 St's, 1dc in each St to end. 8sts. (I'm OK to this point)

Dec at end and same edge until 3 St's rem. (I only have one stitch on hook and it doesn't say turn) please can anybody help?

Hmm.  I'm not sure about the oval, because she is on the 8th row, and the pattern is calling for decreases.   Normally an oval is worked around a chain and you increase at both ends of the chain.

I think Flippantred is working on something that gets shaped (decreased) on 1 side only, so will end up as a right angled triangle.  I am a believer in stitch markers, I'd do the first decrease and put a stitch marker in it to remind you to decrease on the end of that side every time you end a row there, and work the other side al the way to the end stitch each time.

The way it is worded, I'm 99% sure it means to decrease there only when you are at the END of the marked side, because it said "Dec at end and same edge".  It did not say to also decrease when you begin a row on that edge.
