Needing help with circle vest

I am making this for a friend and she wants it long, I was wondering which part of the pattern or stitch should I continue to make the circle grow without it defecting the circle?

See the diagram on page 2?  You are going to have to turn the circle into an offset oval; after making the pattern as written, you'll have to add partial, increasingly shorter rows to the bottom half.  The pattern stitches will look different in that area because you will be changing from rounds to rows.  You are going to have to 'wing' this, I'd follow repeats of the established pattern stitches.

 

You can't keep it a circle without making the sleeves too long.

 

But per the photo it looks like it already comes to the (probably tall) model's knees, how much longer does your friend want it?

 

I'll try to sketch what I mean and add to this post shortly.

She wants it pass the knee about halfway down the calf. When opening the circle it will come almost to her fingertips. And when it comes to the collar, I am actually going to turn it into a hood.

So the total circumference will be 68 inches

What I was thinking of was something like this, the grey is the original outline, the red outline of additional rows would keep it roundish but elongated, similar bottom outline.  

 

Edit - well it was a red line in my paint program, hmm.
