substitute yarn for crochet cotton

Pattern uses Mary Maxim Crochet Cotton (2 ply mercerized sport weight.

Can I substitute maybe a sport weight yarn instead, as long as I get the same gauge needed???

I don't see why you couldn't do just that, as long as the gauge remains the same.

Here's a handy little list for hook to yarn size that might help.

I agree, just do a gauge swatch and if it is the same, you're good to go.
