scarf with sleeves question?

I like this scarf with sleeves, but I am still fairly new to knitting.  Would you say it is garter stitch on big needles?  Knit flat then sewn up for sleeves maybe?  What size needles and yarn would you think would be best to get this look.  I'm wanting to make myself one, Any suggestions will help

Looks like garter st to me. I would guess its worsted wt yarn on ndls a size or two bigger than the recommended size. It does look like a super long scarf that is seamed for the arms.

That is so cute! It is definitly garter stitch. As for what size needles and yarn I would suggest selecting a yarn you like first the do some swatches with a couple different sizes of needles until you are happy with how it looks. It does seem to just be a very long, wide scarf that has been seamed on the ends to make the "sleeves". If you want the sleeves to be more fitted you will have to play around with it a bit for making the appropriate increases/decreases so it fits the way you want throughout.

 

I need to make one of these for myself now too. I just need to choose some yarn.

Thanks, I did learn its called a sciarpone.  There are patterns out there like the one magiccrochetfan posted, but much to advanced for me.  I need to learn to knit in the round now.

It can be done flat with needles and the sleeves can get seamed as in this free pattern:

Lion brand also has a crocheted version. I wouldn't use homespun, though, like either pattern but instead use the technique using worsted weight or lighter yarn. You would have to play with it, though since the gauge would be different.

Oh thank you!  This will be so much easier.  I  want to use a worsted weight yarn.  i have enough redheart I can play with before I get the expensive yarn I wanna use.  I really love the fringe on the sleeves too!  Cool thanks again!
