Help finding crochet books

alleyblossom

Question

Hi!!!

My name is Alley and I'm from Australia. I am currently doing well with my crochet, but am also keen to expand my skill base and make new things. When I was taught to crochet, I was taught using the US terminology and finding patterns online is easy. I am now starting to want to collect pattern books and here in AUS it seems a little harder to find books in the terms I understand.

Would really appreciate some great titles of pattern books in US terms and some online stores where I can purchase. I am probably somewhere between beginner and intermediate if that helps at all.

Many thanks

This can help you, so that if you want, you can purchase patterns with English Terms.

Herrschners http://www.herrschners.com/Default.aspx? shipsinternational.  They have 2 web sites, on in Canada and one American.

Mary Maxim http://www.marymaxim.com/ is another site that ships international.

I can look for some others later.

AlleyBlossom, what about digital books?  Maybe I am wrong but I would assume you could order a digital edition from anywhere in the world.  Digital would avoid the problem of international shipping costs.

I have a few pattern books in Kindle form, and I have to admit I haven't used them yet, but they were ones I was planning to buy and then they popped up on Amazon for under $3 so I quickly bought them to get that price.

I have started buying all my crochet (and knitting) magazines in digital form because I find mags are a pain to store.  I don't enjoy flipping through a digital mag like i do a paper copy, but I can find the digital one when I want it----the paper ones seem to hide from me  :heehee

And digital patterns are really easy for me to use on an ipad, I can enlarge the section I am working on and focus on that.  Much easier than a paper copy which slips off my lap and flops around, and the print is too small to see easily unless I hold the magazine where my bifocals can focus on it---hard to do when my hands are already full of hook, yarn, and project.  I can use the digital patterns on my desktop as well so they are quite handy.

Interweave does nice books and they do ship internationally apparently but I can't tell how much it costs http://www.interweavestore.com/shipping-faqs#shippingcharge

Go to the crochet tab to see their books and magazines. They do mainly womens clothes but some kids clothes and blankets/home decor. Oh they have dvds and video downloads also.

And they have a lot of sales as you can see 30% off right now.

Crochet one skein wonders http://www.amazon.com/Crochet-One-Skein-Wonders-Projects-Crocheters/dp/1612120423%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIVR5RCD3ZTXIG7RA%26tag%3Dravelry-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1612120423

Is a cute book. You get a LOT of patterns for the money. It is a fun way to try out new ideas and yarn types. The kindle edition is still 2.99 so it might even be worth it to get that to decide if you want to invest in the print book.

I love Edie Eckman's books http://www.amazon.com/Crochet-One-Skein-Wonders-Projects-Crocheters/dp/1612120423%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIVR5RCD3ZTXIG7RA%26tag%3Dravelry-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1612120423

The first four books on that page are great resources. With the motif, joining, and border books, you could make up your own blanket recipes.
