Square corners

TinaKB

Question

Hello everyone  :)

I finally got the hang of crochet - yay! It just suddenly clicked.

Quick question, I've made a granny square and want to crochet around it in single crochet - double to those of us in the UK - I know when I get to corners I have to do three so that it maintains it's square shape, do I need to chain one at the beginning or end of each row or do I just carry on with my stitches?

Thanks x

If you are making several rows of single crochet around your granny square(s) as a border - yes, you must make a chain 1 at the beginning of your new row just to get you up to the next row.

You should chain 1, do your single crochet all around the square remembering to do three in the corners, join with a slip stitch, then do the chain 1 to go to the next row and continue on with the single crochets.

Hello, sorry for not replying sooner, I'm trying to finish my current novel and have been working like stink, writing around 6000 words a day.

Anyway, thank you for the replies, that makes sense now, and thanks for the extra tip Granny Square :)
