Crochet hook & afghan hook equivalent

graysiesgrana

Question

I have instructions for an afghan from the 1970's.  The instructions call for a #7 crochet hook and a #10 afghan hook.  I have looked for equivalent hook sizes online, but have no idea what size hooks to buy so I can make this afghan.  It's possible I have these hooks as I made this afghan long ago, however want to make it again.  Many thanks for your help.

Look to a Clover Hook for a size "7" assuming they don't mean a steel hook. That is in between a G and an H. I usually just use the H with no problem. #10 is a J size afghan hook. Hope this helps.

There is a new #7 hook for yarn. I have it, it is a Susan Bates hook that I bought. First time I had seen it in a pattern was a in a book by Jean Leinhauser and I emailed her since I thought it was a misprint. She graciously emailed me back and said it was a #7.
