What's this technique called?

Hello all,

 

I'm new to crochet, just branching out from the basic stitches. Having got my head around post stitches, I've come across this pattern, here on Crochetville: http://www.crochetville.com/community/topic/125485-cabled-heart-square-6x6-inches-2-images/#entry2231787

 

I love the outlining effect created by the post stitches, but can't find the name of this technique anywhere (the tutorial says 'cabled', but searching Google for crochet cabling just brings up the traditional cable patterns).

 

Anyone?!

there is not another name for it, it is simply post stitches arranged into the heart shape.  

 

What exactly were you hoping to find, beyond the pattern?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Am hoping to find similar patterns which create outlines of other shapes (not just straight cables or the heart shape, seem to be a lot of those floating about).

 

Anyone know where one might find what I'm looking for?

Lion brand has an afghan called Tree of Life that has large trees and small flowers, you might want to look on their site for that.

RedHeart.comhas a lot of aran-y afghan, mostly cables but some diamond shapes.  There's a holiday Christmas tree that uses post stitches that's pretty cool

Searching aran seems to bring up a bit more of a variety of results...guess I'll have to dig a bit deeper! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

You may be thinking of "surface crochet," which is usually done, I think, with chain stitches, used to form a shape on top of a crocheted fabric. This does look like FP stitches, however, as others said.

It isn't quite as dimensional ad the post stitch, but you can do different things with free-form "drawings" and different colors.
