Someone asked me to make this blanket and I have no idea what stitch this is, anyone know?

Very hard to tell from that photo.  Possibly a shell stitch of some sort made with an overlarge hook. 

 

I'd show her some examples of shell stitches from other patterns (there are a gazillion different shell stitch patterns) and see what she likes.  Also, I bet she likes the colorway not so much the stitches, it might be hard for her to visualize the stitch without the color changes if that makes sense.

I agree that she probably meant she liked the colors and the big poofy look. The pattern isn't discernable to me either, but I also think it's a variety of large shells, or large shells separated by V Sts.

I agree as well--and I think the yarn is variegated, which might be a problem finding, if the pattern is old.  Good Luck!
