Help! I can't read this simple pattern

SVmom001

Question

I am new to crochet and would greatly appreciate any help reading this pattern.

It's for a witches hat and the author writes:

Hat
1) ch3, dc in beginning ch, ch3, turn
2) dc in same ch as ch3, 2dc in next st, dc, ch3 turn
3) dc 3, ch3 turn
4) dc 5, do not turn

I don't know on steps 3 and 4 where I'm supposed to DC into?  Is it each chain?  Is it the base?  Please please let me know if you have an answer :)

Thanks!

1) ch3, dc in beginning ch, ch3, turn

This more or less gives you 2 DC, (1 real one and 1 that's a ch-2)
2) dc in same ch as ch3, 2dc in next st, dc, ch3 turn

This gives you 4 DC total, the turning chain, then 3 real DC. The last DC must be made into the top of the ch-2 from the first row
3) dc 3, ch3 turn

I will make a guess and this would be made like a standard row of DC, where you ch-3, skip the first DC, and DC into the rest. So you still have 4 DC counting the turning chain
4) dc 5, do not turn

This is a problem, it doesn't tell you where to add the extra stitch.  Since it's her hat, I'd add the increase in the middle.

Row 2 won't work as given  as you only have 2 stitches to work into so I would leave off the last dc.

3) dc 3, ch3 turn
4) dc 5, do not turn

I would do the extra dc by the ch 3 like the others.

There is another mistake later too as it says sl st to sc but has no sc I think when it says slst in 6 stitches it could mean sc

I think there could be something else missing in this pattern as the top in the picture

is more pointed than this gives.
