How much yarn?

greyhoundgrandma

Question

I'm going to make the bearghan baby blanket with worsted weight yarn. It is made of 12" squares. I don't do squares much and realize the amount of yarn used depends on the square pattern. But can anyone give me a ballpark idea of how many ounces of yarn the "average" 12" square uses?

Worsted Weight has a fairly wide range so what you may want to do is make a small swatch using the same yarn in pattern.

Using a 6 inch square,

Make it, then weight it with a postage scale.

Multiple times 4 (it takes 4 six inch quare to make 1 twelve inch)

Multiple that by the number of blocks.

Add 10-15% to each color and of course something for the edging.
