Sorry it took me so long to get this written up, been working on more heart squares.

The square was scanned in two part and then put together for a picture.
(Don't have a digital camera)

Please send me a pm if you find any errors.
(I'm a lefty and hand some figuring out to do for the Right handed Directions)

Worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Supersaver yarn)
Size H hook (5.00mm)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: 12”h x 12”w inches

Notes:

*On Row 1 when you dc in 6th chain from hook this will leave 5 chains free. The 5 chains count as part of starting chain, 1 dc, and ch1.

Beginning ch4 counts as dc and ch1.

Directions:

Row 1: Ch40, 1 dc in 6th chain from hook, [ch1, skip next chain, 1 dc in next chain] Do this 17 times, ch4 and turn.
(19dc, 18-ch1 spaces)

Row 2: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in next st, [1 dc in next ch1 space, 1 dc in next st] Do this 16 times, ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in 4th chain of ch5* (There should be 3 chains left free for corner.), ch4 and turn.

Row 3: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in each of the next 33 sts, ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch4, ch4 and turn.

Now you’re going to start working in Rnds for the Border. When working into Row ends do not work into actual st work around post of dc by yarning over, insert hook between ch1 space and post of dc (Note: When you’re working into Row ends the dc will be horizontal), yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw thru 2 loops, yarn over draw thru last 2 loops on hook.

A Corner Space is where a ch1 and Row end meet at the corners of the square.

Border:

Rnd 1: 1 dc in ch1 space, 2 dc in each of the next 16-ch1 spaces, (2 dc, ch3, 3 dc) all in next corner space (ch1/Row end), 2 dc in each of the next 15 Row ends, (3 dc, ch3, 2 dc) all in next corner space (Row end/ch1), 2 dc in each of the next 16-ch1 spaces, (2 dc, ch3, 3 dc) all in next corner space (ch1/Row end), 2 dc in each of the next 15 Row ends, 3 dc in next corner space (same space as first dc of Rnd), ch3, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.
(144dc, 4-ch3 spaces) (Beginning ch3 counts as dc)

Rnd 2: Ch3, 1 dc in each of the next 35 sts, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) all in next ch3 space, [1 dc in each of the next 36 sts, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) all in next ch3 space] Do this 3 times, join with sl st to top of beginning ch3.
