It probably would stretch out your work. Unless you use an interfacing on both sides and then take that out. Quicker to do it the conventional way.

If you are talking about using sewing thread to join yarn strips, I would not suggest that. My past experience has been that squares (strips) sewn together with sewing thread will come apart when washed. Can sewing machines use yarn? I think that would be great. :-)
