Soles for shoes?

AidanM

Question

I'd like to crochet some light airy slippers, but instead of using them for inside I'd like them to be wearable outside as well and I just don't think that the bottoms would hold up very well. Is there anything I can use as a sole? I want something rather firm, like a real shoe, as they'd probably be worn everywhere from sidewalks to gravel driveways and I'd like to prevent things like sharp rocks and such from piercing the bottoms.

I've gone to thrift stores and bought leather purses and cut soles from them, and punched around with a letter punch. They are cheaper than these:

But these are a lot easier to use and very cool for what you are wanting to do.

One of the issues of Crochet! had a pattern for using old canvas sneakers I'll look for it in a few minutes (need more coffee lol) and give you the date and page number etc.

K, found it. It's in the July issue ('05) on page 16
