Choosin yarn?

How do you choose your yarn for your own design? I am workin on designin a hat, my choice was RH worsted weight. I have some Deborah Nerville yarn that I thought maybe would look great in my pattern, but the yarn I have is bulky weight. Should I use a smaller hook? Or maybe change the pattern around for the yarn weight change? I am not sure what to do, any suggestions will be welcomed with open miind.

I think you just have to give it a try and work from there until you get something you like. The last hat I made I pulled it apart several times and redid it until I was happy with it.

I would either change the pattern to fit your weight of yarn OR get some worsted weight yarn and keep your pattern the same.

 

What do you feel most comforable doing?

 

If the pattern is for many people, I would be inclined to do it in worsted weight because people tend to have a lot of worsted left from other projects, a skein here and there that could be used for a hat. Then privately, adjust the pattern for your heavier yarn so you can use that yarn for yourself.
