This pattern was in the latest newsletter from crochet.about.com . It's a Lacy Child's Cape and very cute.

I love the diagonal shell stitch.

 

The child's cape is pretty, but I wonder how safe it is on a toddler who does not know how to walk, runs non-stop? I'd be concerned about the cape getting caught on doorknobs or other objects.

It only goest to the elbows according to the photo so I don't see how that'd interfer with walking or running. I don't see it getting caught anymore than ponchos or sweaters. My toddler hasn't caught either one of her ponchos.
