drop a loop??

Recommended Posts

I just started the pattern "Simple Shrug" in "The Happy Hooker" pattern book.

It says to repeat the same thing for several rows, and it says that at the end of row 11, you drop a loop.

I don't really get how one does this in crochet. I always thought that dropping a loop was a bad thing in knitting.. but I don't get the crochet version.

Can someone explain?

Thanks!:D

I don't have the book, but the only time I've seen this phrase is when you remove the loop from the hook, stick the hook someplace else and grab the loop back to finish a stitch.

The most common example is the popcorn stitch, but it's also done with motif joining.

I'm curious to see if it means something else in your pattern :think

well according to the pattern, the loop is used to start the sleeve, which is apparently made already attached to the shrug instead of making the sleeve and attaching it later. Hm. I might have to try that.. but I'm still slightly confused by it. I skimmed the rest of the pattern and it doesn't really look like it's used again...
