Question about making buttonholes after felting

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with cutting the buttonhole for a purse coming apart after felting the purse?

 

Mine looked like it would, so I sewed around it to secure it.

I've had no problem, but to make it look more finished, I put a buttonhole stitch or blanket stitch around the hole.

Do you felt your items so you don't see any stitches? If your finished item looks like a solid piece of fabric, you shouldn't have any problem with a button hole unraveling....if you don't felt til you lose stitch definition, it might be a problem...
