From DC to SC

MidnightandOreo

Question

I have been using a hat pattern that uses DC and want to try it in SC. The way it increases seems to be whatever round you are on, DC normally that many stitches then do 2DC in the same space. Like, in Round 4, *DC in next 4, 2DC in same space*. If I change it to SC, do I just do that for twice as many rounds to increase the same amount? Or is there some trick to knowing how many to increase by?

You should do the increases for one round of sc, but the next round should have no increases to allow for the difference in size from the dc to the sc stitch. If you do increases in both rounds you'll have too many stitches.

I agree you'll have more stitches to a round, but increasing every round keeps the project flat. Once you start sc in each stitch for as many rounds as needed, then it starts to curve down. I would try it both ways too, increase every other round to see if it works out the same. ?
