You sure can!

Silk (not sure if you're considering that an animal fiber or not), soy silk, hemp, flax... there are tons of fibers you can spin! :)

Schweet!! Now where do I find these fibers? I'd prolly need to order online since I never have time to go out someplace.

My mom is so funny. She said "here, try cotton" and threw a bag of cotton balls at me.

the cotton balls will mostly work, but it's hard with a regular spindle. ;) I know some people that spin the fuzz from their dryers!

Ohio Valley Natural Fibers have soy silk, hemp, ingeo (corn fiber), and animal fibers.

The Woolery has cotton, flax, synthetics, ingeo, bamboo, soy silk and others.

Pacific Wool and Fiber have ingeo, nylon and others.

I've ordered from all of these places (my Ohio Valley purchase was in person at a festival, not online) and been very happy with my purchases.

HTH!

Thanks a lot, Jess!! I bookmarked all those links and can't wait to try some new fibers...after I'm done with all my wool, that it. :)
