Booties.. Sizes???

im trying to make booties for my best friends baby which is due in august.. but i think they are way too small..

 

can anyone give me an idea on how long newborns feet are from heel to toe, or sizing of booties.. in measurements

In general, I think feet can range from about 2 and a half inches to 4 inches for a newborn.

 

A very good pattern is in Crochet Gourmet's website in the KNappy Cake pattern. It's amazingly simple and turns out the cutest booties. They start at the toes, instead of the bottom, like most do.

My question would be...do big feet run in their family? Both my daughters feet have been about 3 1/2 inches at birth (DH wears size 15) they have his feet. Our 3 1/2 year old DD wears a size 11 right now, but by fall she will most likely be in a 12. I personally would shoot for about 3" long that way if they are a little big it's ok and they will come in handy for winter too.:)
