help needed upsizing a barbie pattern to a 3yo

Question

hiya folks,

I have just finished making a hat and a shrug using the "fluffy pink shrug schematics" for my 3yo niece.

Because I over estimated the amount of yarn I needed, I was wanting to make her a matching skirt to go with it. All I could find that I like was this - http://barbiebasics.tripod.com/crochet31.html - Is it possible to do this in a 3yo size? (after I get her waist measurement of course)

I was thinking of using elastic as the starting point, coz kids have no discernable waists at that age. How would I get the 'cross over" though?

arrrggghhhh

Does anyone have a kiddy pattern similar, maybe?

TIA

The Barbie pattern doesn't state what yarn or thread they use. I would think it's thread. You could make the Barbie skirt out of worsted weight yarn with an H hook. See how big that makes it. Then just add stitches & rows until you get the right size. Measure around your daughter to get her measurements.....then check your gauge. It really shouldn't be that hard since it's a wrap around skirt. I know this all sounds vague but it's a start and what I would do.
