I'm a little confused with this whole copyright thing

Recommended Posts

I have never sold anything that Ive made but have been told I should. So I'm looking into it. If I have a free pattern that I got from a book/magazine/or internet sight and I make the item can I sell it? Not the pattern the item I made. Ive never made a pattern so I'm just curious. I wouldnt want to sell something and then get in trouble KWIM.

You should have written permission from the copyright holder before you sell anything made from a pattern. Some patterns explicitly state whether you may or may not sell items you make from the pattern. If the pattern doesn't say anything about it, your best bet is to contact the publisher/designer and request permission.
