Help - what is a "sleeve cap"

Yes - that sounds right. The sleeve cap is the part that goes over your shoulder - the rounded part - and is eased into the body of the sweater when you sew it together. In other words, you don't have just straight seams (like a drop shoulder sweater), they'll be rounded (decreased) for a better fit (set-in sleeves):). If the front & back of your sweater had you decrease for the armholes, then chances are that's what's happening.
