It really depends on what size sqare to want to end up with. I think 6" is a perfect size for baby/ child items

some larger ones as well. Should I go for 6 and 8? I guess I don't know what difference it makes......I know what it does, but why does the size matter? They have 6, 8. 10, 12.

because you make the squares first so you need to know how mant squares you want to make to construct your blanket

Well, that makes it very difficult! Guess I'll save up for the combo pack too. I can't make decisions; that's why I have yarn everywhere, much of which does not have a particular project associated with it. Must work on this!

I bought the 8 and really wish I would have bought the 6. The 8 is really a bit to big for what I want. If you go smaller, you can always crochet more edging to make the squares bigger. And no, they can't be found locally...only on-line.
