Help with Short 'n sweet

Hi - Hope someone can help me. I'm having fun with Short 'n sweet - it is a challenge and up to now have been able to figure it out. BUT..

 

I'm on Row 8 of the right sleeve. Not sure why it says to attach a separate strand of yarn in the first st in roow 8 or why to Fasten off strand.

 

Then when I go to Row 9 I can work the row 9 pattern up to where it says on page 172 FPdc around the post of next 2 dc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch, V-st in last ch, turn. My stitches end after the FPdc???

You might want to post the exact instructions for Rows 8 & 9. It's hard to tell where it might go wrong without the instructions or where the repeats are.

I made this quite a while ago, but from what I remember you're chaining out a base line to work your pattern stitches in to make the garment wider at that point.
