you seem to have 2 threads on this. For picot, chain the number of st. called for. Slip stitch in first chain. This forms picot

What part are you having a problem with? Are you trying to figure out which chain to do the picot in? If so, after you ch5 or ch9 just sl st in the base of the chain (the stitch you started your chain from). This will make a larger picot.
