Dying cotton thread...

I bought several white cotton thread size 10 at the dollar store a while back... and now I am wondering... can this be dyed?

Is it best to do the kool aid or use one of those t-shirt tie dye kits?

I'd do a swatch of the Kool-aid first. If you like it, end of story.

Kool-Aid dyeing works best with protein fibers (wool, silk, etc.) and will rinse out of cotton. For plant fibers, some of the commercial dyes work better. A good resource is Dharma Trading. Best wishes...it should be a fun project!
