Keeping tension

SnuggNugg

Question

Hello,

I have problems keeping tension evenly in a project. I either get it too tight or too loose, never just right. I've been crocheting for years and it's like this. Also, I've heard of a magic loop. You use this to start crochet with. How does that work, does anyone know. Thanks!!!!

Do you check your gauge before you start the project? You can use a larger hook to compesate for crocheting too tightly, or a smaller hook if you crochet too loosely. I tend to crochet tightly, so I use a larger hook.

As for the magic loop, it's something that can be used for crocheting in the round. Here's a good tutorial: http://www.crochetme.com/Dec_Jan_0405/reads_round.html

You can buy a little gadget to help you control your tension. It is available www.patternworks.com , the item number is 300067 and is called a Cro-knit Tension keeper. If you have trouble with tension it will take that problem away.
