joining yarn to the foundation chain

greeniris2

Question

:yarn I am working on a bottom for a bathing suit. I made the front section with no problem, but the back is a different story. The pattern says, "working across opposite side of foundation chain, join yarn in first chain, then chain three." Since the chain is already tied off and has a short tail from when I started it, how do I join in the new yarn and build off what I have already made. If someone could help me with this dilema it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From your description, I think that is what you would do - join the yarn in the first chain (the one with the yarn tail). It seems like you will be making the other half of the bottom of the bathing suit - instead of making it in a separate piece, you will start it from the opposite side of the foundation chain.

When I join to the foundation row I would...slst in the first chain of the foundation row...ch 3...then continue with the pattern working in the loops of the chain of the foundation row...
