My mother was trying to explain that hat to me. Her grandmother made one from milk jugs. Maybe sometime, if I feel like making her happy, I will make her one too.

I remember those hats!! My mother made a few of them for my brothers and dad. But the difference between the patterns posted here and the ones I remember, they used a can on the top as well.

 

I still like the one that Empress Busy Bee posted the link for. Thinking if I can get some of my other WIPs out of the way, I might just try it.

I made one today May 22, 2007 ....A Beer Can Hat..with my own directions.

 

But I used Soda pop cans instead...Check it out and let me know what you think of it.
