I would try this as a basic pattern...no sleeves...no ribbing...no collar...use a very "open" stitch...like a mesh-type...use a large hook

Here we go...this is basically what I was trying to find...

use the mesh-look...that is for sizes 2 and 3...so you can go smaller.

Do you see where I am going here...

OK, I will. So far, I am thinking of doing my own design, the patterns were helpful, with the idea of shaping. I will be using 1 strand of size 10 thread, and with me greatly disliking math, converting a yarn pattern for thread would be disastrous. I have posted everywhere I can thnik of, even blogged it, for all of the advice I can get. I tried my hand at designing once last month, and after 2 weeks of trying, I still ended up with nothing.

I have tried to make the onesie pattern like the one listed by Lilybean (the all in one), but the pattern doesn't say what size it is for, I did it using a K hook instead of the smaller one asked for and got the neck portion finished, but it looks like a preemie size. I am a newbie to crochet so don't have any real idea on how I could alter the pattern for a larger size. Does anyone know a formula for this or could help me with that? I am trying to make one for a 3 or 6 month old.

You could try increasing the hook/yarn size

That is very close to this pattern...

Maybe you could compare the 2 and see what you need to do to make is a little larger.

Maybe this chart will help...this is for the bottom part that covers the diaper...

Pattern Size Clothing: Newborn Size Hip meas.: 12" Crotch depth: 16" Leg Circ.: 6"

Pattern Size Clothing: Small 0-6 month Hip Measc:14" Crotch depth: 18" Leg Circ.: 7"

Thanks. I went to an N hook, sport weight yarn with some stretch to it and although it looks larger, it is still way too short. :( I think I will give up on that pattern and just try to work the other one listed. Thanks for your help.
