spinning for a sweater

I have a pattern from lily go that I cant find the right yarn for.

Now I was thinking of spinning it, which would not bother me in the least.

so how many ounces or maybe pounds even, would I need to spin 1200m of fingering weight yarn?

I am not home right now to see all my notes , so I am hoping someone has this info for me.

I've been using the weights listed on balls of yarn as a guide line. If a ball the is 2 ounces and I figure I would need 3 balls for a project, then I estimate I need 6 ounces plus a little to be on the safe side so I would spin up 8 ounces.

However I'm fairly new to spinning, so there may be better ways to figure this.

well I got it all figured out. she used Rowan 4 ply cotton which is 185 yds or 50g

which means I need 8 balls of fingering weight yarn or 14.2 ounces of fiber.

now how fast do I want this sweater is the question. lol lol

Be sure to post pictures of the whole process! The fleece/roving, the spinning, we want to see it all.

Yes, figuring out the oz and then spinning a little extra sounds right to me. I've been wanting to spin enough to crochet a sweater, too. I'll be interested to hear from you on how this goes. I've spun enough to knit a sweater once, but I don't really like to knit very much. I just did it because I wanted to use that book "sweater workshop". It turned out pretty good though.
