Ball verses skein

When you ladies buy yarn in a skein or hank, do you ball it or keep it in skein form? What are the pros of balling it?

 

I always work with mine in the skein but recently on another message board I read of people balling it before working with it.

When I buy yarn in skeins, I leave it in skein form, unless I get it tangled somehow (don't know what I do, but it occasionally gets tangled) and then I roll it into a ball. Otherwise, I leave the skeins as skeins.

i usually leave skeins alone unless i have like a half that is just floppy and messy .. hanks.. i ALWAYS wind them
