Purse/handbag for cancer survivor

I would love to make some kind of purse for my friend who had breast cancer 5 years ago. I've never made a purse/bag with handles but I would love to try. The Hobby Lobby near me has some cute black handles that I thought would be perfect, but I don't know where to start as far as a pattern.

 

Would love your feedback/suggestions/patterns...and thanks in advance.
