Dollar Tree coasters

I was perusing my local Dollar Tree store and in the kitchen section I saw some crocheted coasters made of some kind of slick, crunchy paper-like material. It might have been plastic, but felt like paper.

Maybe it was that curling ribbon that is used sometimes. Or maybe it was a sort of raffia.

Yes, that's what I would call it! It felt like paper, but was shiny. It was a light blue.

They were a nice color. They would certainly look better made with yarn or thread, but they'd do the job if they could withstand water. I touched them and wondered of someone made them by hand. I think there were 2 in the pack, but it could have been 4 for a dollar.
