Thread for shawl edging

I have a raw silk shawl that I want to add an edging. I need some suggestions on what kind of thread to use. I've only worked with cotton thread and I'm not sure it would work with the silk.

Did you think about fine polyester threads. When you finish working it feels like silk. But it is harder to work with (they are little runny). If you like to try it, I can send you sample. You can send me p. message
