have you ever accidently washed a 100% wool sweater? and it came out 3 sizes smaller than when it went in? That is felting lol But we do it on purpose

 

Crochet something bigger than what you want using only 100% wool yarn, throw it in the washer in hot then cold water and it comes out felted! you may want to run it thru more than once so you can't see the stitches as well.
