filet charted in panels-please help

i am in need of help. i want to make a tree skirt. i have the design i want to do in my head. it would be 1 wedge of a hexagon repeated a total of 8 times. my question is this....ho do i work it so that all the wedges are joined? do i work them individually and sew together at the end ( not sure how neat that would appear) do i make a chain for the entire first row of all 8 panels, then if so how do i work where one panle end to the next starting? as you can tell i am new to working in panles. i would greatly appreciate any help.

I would work them individually then slip stitch them together.

There's a link to a pointsettia Christams tree skirt on CPC that I made this fall where the panels were done first, then stitched together. Check it out--maybe it would help you clarify in your head the best way to approach it. And it's filet, too. And I've already had someone ask me to make them one after seeing the one I finished in October.
