I think you will really enjoy working with the double-ended hook. It makes a beautiful soft, reversible fabric. The cabled cro-hook is used primarily to create large projects in one piece when the stitch count is too large for the traditional 10" or 14" hooks, making it perfect for afghans or garments. You can soften the curl in the plastic cabling, but immersing the cable into hot water for a few seconds then straighening it with your fingers. There are many patterns available for the cro-hook on line, just run it through your favorite search engine. :yay
