Rectangle Granny Square

HollyM

Question

Hi!

I want to make an afghan for my son that is one big Granny Square. Problem is, I want it to be a rectangle, not a squre.

The only pattern I could find for a rectangle square is this one

<a href="http://members.aol.com/SAG55/rectsq.html" target="_new">members.aol.com/SAG55/rectsq.html</a>

I think that might get too long before it gets wide enough.

Does anyone have a different pattern? I couldn't find one on CPC.

mmouseplus.gifHere is a couple I just found. I've used the bottom one and tried out the top one yesterday. It looks like it would be better suited for rectangles rather than a continual round and round thing. But as always, it's crocheter's preference!

Holly, the link you posted, if you just shorten it length-wise it should work fine for you. Looking at the picture, I see the corners at the top, then 2 sections, then add another corner after that and keep going around. That way the width and length arent so far off from eachother.

I would just make a chain about 43 stitches and single chain down to the end then sc or dc 3 in bottom chain and back around and sc or dc 3 in the beginning chain then work your granny pattern into that base working the (3 dc, chain 3, 3 dc) on the 1st and 3rd chains of your beginning base for your corners.

That is how I would try it.....no guarantees, but I'm a diddler.......LOL :D!

Thanks gang!

I feel silly not thinking about just shortening the chain on the pattern I did find <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/oops.gif" />

That looks like the 2nd pattern did that SL posted, I'm going to try that one. I like the solid center look.

DS has picked out some...uh...interesting color choices for his ghan (he's 9) and I thought a big granny would work for putting them together w/out being too gaudy. I hate doing color changes & joining so a bunch of small squares are out.
