Can you waterproof crocheted articles?

I posted about these crocheted boots that I want to make in Seeking Pattern. I am thinking and thinking about these boots as I move along with my other projects. I am hoping to get some help from my friends here at Crochetville when I get to the point where I am actually putting stuff on paper; I have never freehanded anything in my life, and I really want these boots to turn out. Do you think there is any way to protect the bottoms of these fantasy boots? I am not sure, maybe lining the bottoms with leather ? Or ? I am at a loss. You guys/gals are so creative. I am learning thru reading posts in here to think outside the box. These boots are going to be my hardest project to date, they will take the most effort, I want to make sure they actually last. So we'll see. Any ideas would be great. Thanks all !!!

Patternworks.com has a set of leather slipper soles that might work. Kind of pricey though so you might shop around. :thinking1

Definetly pricey! I"ve not found them elsewhere.
