Crocheting with Fabric???

Maybe this has come up before - but I was wondering if anyone has ever crocheted using fabric strips. I saw a pattern in some book I was looking at Barnes & Noble yesterday and thought - how intriguing.....just curious if anyone has tried it and how it worked out? Thanks.

I haven't done it, though it's on my list of things to do. I'd love to make a rug from fabric strips some day for in the kitchen. )
