Can you dye thread? I have this really nice pattern that I'm testing but the store close by doesn't have colors i really like. Does it work the same as yarn?

To dye crochet thread (and I'm assuming it's cotton or polycotton) you need to use a cloth dye like Rit.

It's not too difficult, but other than having to use something like Rit, yep, it's the same as yarn.

Would the kool aid work as well?
As a short answer, I would say "No".

Kool-Aid works really well on protein fibers (like wool, from animals), but for cottons/jute/linen you need something like RIT. I'm not even sure about acrylic... to turn a phrase, "that's a yarn of a different color."

There's a thread floating around about dye and yarn that has a more complete answer as to why the kool-aid works better with animal fibers. :)
