Tunisian Crochet help

ladysnow

Question

Okay...I am wanting to "tackle" a tunisian afghan pattern that I am going to get for my son's birthday. My question is...how do you keep the blanket looking nice when there are a lot of color changes. Do you hold all the colors as you do the afghan stitch and stitch over them? If not, how do you keep the backside of the afghan looking nice and not like the back of a cross-stitch project?

Hi,

I am doing my first afghan like this. A lot of people will say to crochet the ends in but when i tried it like that it did not look good at all so after each of the color changes i do a couple of stitches and then double tie the two colors together. Right now i am doing winnie the pooh and it looks good so if you have any other questions feel free to ask me and i will try to help.

Melanie if you are doing color changes in Tunisian crochet don't try to carry your yarn across more than 3 stitches. Wind off small amounts onto yarn bobbins or into small balls then change as required in your pattern. Cut your yarn leaving a length of 3" - 4"aproximately and when you are finished with your afghan sew in the ends. Also I would suggest to change color only on your pick up row and when you change color put that yarn around and under the one you are dropping so as you don't leave holes in your work. I hope i've explained it clearly.
