S-Hook patterns

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know where I can look to find patterns using the S-hook? I have an S-Hook and don't quite know what to do with it. I have used my Q-hook before holding 3 strands of yarn together and that worked fine. I just don't know how to work out the dimensions since I've never used a hook this large before. Please help! Thank you!!!:D

I know there is a book that is specifically dedicated to large hooks but as far as on line, here's one that may work:

It's the Quick and Quirky Poncho that one of our very own Villers created!

I made 2 of these with a Q hook but there's no reason you couldn't use any large hook including an S.

Also, anything really that requires either a nice "holey" appearance or very bulky yarn would work. I believe you can make rugs with the larger hooks as well.

I've used Q hooks a lot. When using it, I used normal patterns, but used more strands of yarn with it.

I think you could use a S hook maybe for use with 3"– 5" wide fabric strips or multi-strand (8 strands) yarn. This hook is ideal for large baskets, thick rugs, and thick chairpads. You could try fabric crochet patterns.

Or you could use Q hook patterns and adapt them slightly for the S hook.

You might have to play with ideas. I don't think you have to go out and buy books just for the S hook. It reminds me of when people take thread patterns and make them with yarn or plastic bags or anything different than thread.

Good luck!
