Wound too tight

I received a large amount of yarn from freecycle. Most of it is good colors and there was even two cones of cotton, like sugar & cream. My question is some of the yarn has been wound into balls very tight. How do you think this will be to use in projects?

Don't think it will make a differance if it is the usual 4 ply yarn

My experience has been that the plys seem to want to separate if they've been too tightly wound. How that effects your project will depend on the project. On alot of things this can be overcome by making your stitches a little tighter.

Why not try winding the balls into hanks and letting them relax a bit?

In my experience, yarn that's been wound too tight tends to end up thinner than it was originally. I once bought some simply soft in a grab bag at a garage sale and I noticed that it was very fine compared to the skeins I bought at the store.
