Help with Baby Hat

I just started my first baby hat and I am not sure how its supposed to look. Mine has ripples in it. This is hard to describe. I cant post a picture because I just frogged it.

 

The pattern says to use 2 (2 1/2) ounces of Red Heart CA yarn. I didnt have any Red Heart so I am using Lion Brand Baby Soft

 

If I am using yarn that is 5 ozs will that make a difference

 

Any help on baby hats will be appreciated

The only thing I can think of is, you will have enough yarn to do another hat! Maybe 3 out of!

If the gauge is given, definitely work up a swatch to test your gauge. You may have to change the hook size to get the correct gauge. Once you have the right hook for the correct gauge, you're good to go

there was no gauge for the hat - only the blanket and sweater

Is the sweater and the blanket the same guage? If so then the hat is probably the same guage. If not then follow the guage of the sweater.
